This is Ajai from Noida. I retired from the Army in 2007 and after a fruitful second career(s) have now taken up pursuing my passion for travel, photography and writing.

The Army encouraged me to take up the sport of sailing. I became a National Champion and represented the country in the sport. This was followed by 25 years as National Coach for the Optimist Class. It was very satisfying teaching 7 and 8 year-olds and ultimately to accompany them for international events!

Then I qualified as an International Race Officer, the first from India, and it kept me engaged in conducting championships in the country and abroad.

My photographic collection kept swelling.

The opportunity for long distance sailing came in 1977, for one of the first Indian sailing expeditions to foreign shores. I ultimately achieved the sailor’s dream – to sail around the world. The circumnavigation on Trishna in 1987 became maritime history as the first Indians to achieve the feat.

With time, the idea germinated of publishing my collection of photographs and memories. Writing a book seemed blah; the web was a more relevant alternative.
